A small room in Akoka.
One Friday a year.

TEDxUNILAG is an independently organised TEDx event, licensed by TED. We run one show a year at the University of Lagos in Akoka. The 2026 edition — Can't Hold Us — is the second.

What it is.

A ticketed, in-person event. Nine speakers. One Friday. One room in Akoka. We don't livestream the Q&A. We don't sell sponsorships on stage time. We don't book celebrities for the headcount.

Why we do it.

Because the gap between "I know what to do" and "I did it" is the loneliest space in a young person's life. We build a room of people who closed that gap. Then we let new people sit in it for one day and feel less alone.

What it's not.

Not a networking event. Not a careers fair. Not a motivation parade. If you want a "10 tips to follow your passion" talk, this is the wrong room. The talks here are specific, awkward, sometimes uncomfortable, and very real.

What this edition is.

Theme: Can't Hold Us. Built around the gap between people who keep waiting and people who quietly started. Speakers are people who closed that gap, often messily. Date: Fri 12 June 2026.

/ THE WHOLE THING IN FIVE LINES

They told us to wait.

For permission, for credentials, for the right time, for someone older to say yes.

We didn't.

Now we run a small room in Akoka once a year for people who also didn't.

If that's you — the door is open. For now.

12 June. Akoka.

Doors open 09:00. Talks 09:00–18:00. Hot lunch, cold drinks, real Q&A.
